What’s new in Facer Creator: Grouped Layers, Private Templates, Reusable Expressions, and more!

Great watch faces are equal parts creative and technical, and until now the Creator asked you to hold a lot in your head: which hex value you used last, where exactly that complication sits, what #DWFMS# actually returns, etc.

This major Facer Creator release is about taking that load off you and make your design experience a lot more seamless. Here's a rundown of the recent changes:

Keep ambitious designs organized

🗂️ Layer grouping

As your designs get more ambitious, your layer list gets longer. Now you can group related layers together, complications, a set of hands, a themed cluster of elements, and manage them as one.

Move, organize, and tidy up complex faces without scrolling through a wall of individual layers. Groups keep your project clean and make big designs far easier to navigate.

Available now for Facer Creator Partners. Layer grouping is live for our Partners first, with a worldwide launch coming in the next version. Partners get hands-on with new Creator features before anyone else and help shape them before they ship, see how to become one.

🔒 Private starter templates

Great designs often start from a great foundation. With private starter templates, you can save your own reusable starting points, your layouts, your styling, your building blocks, and keep them private to you.

Spin up new faces in seconds instead of starting from a blank canvas, and keep your signature style consistent across everything you create.

Find, understand, save, and reuse expressions and tags without leaving the canvas

💾 Save & reuse expressions

If you've ever rebuilt the same battery-to-rotation formula for the fifth time, this one's for you. You can now save any expression straight from the editor and use it again in any face you make.

Write your expression, hit Save expression, give it a short description, and it lands in My expressions, a personal library that follows you across every project. Need it again? Open the new Expressions tab in the sidepanel, find it, and drop it in with a click. Insert it at your cursor, or replace the whole field in one go.

Not sure where to start? We've included a set of ready-made expressions for the things every face needs, smooth-sweeping hands, formatted dates, battery percentages, step goals, weather, sunrise, and more, all organized by category. Each one comes with a plain-language definition and a live sample output, so you can see exactly what it'll do before it ever touches your design. Search by expression or by what it does, and it's right there.

Build it once, name it, and never write it twice. And when you land on something great, share it, the Facer Community is the perfect place to swap expressions with other creators.

🏷️ Tag highlighting & search

Tags are the building blocks of dynamic watch faces, pulling in live data like time, date, battery, and heart rate, but remembering every tag and exactly what it does isn't easy. So we made them a whole lot friendlier, right where you write your expressions in the side panel.

Now, as you type, your expressions are marked automatically. Tags, functions, and conditional logic each get their own highlight, so even a long, complex expression is easy to read at a glance. Hover over any tag and we'll show you exactly what it does, no need to leave the editor to look it up.

Not sure which tag you need? Search the full list of available tags by name or description, browse every tag you have access to alongside a plain-language definition, and drop the right one straight into your expression. And when you start typing a tag, Facer autocompletes it for you — just press Tab to complete the match.

📖 A new Creator reference guide

Tag help covers the expression you're writing. The new Creator reference guide covers everything around it. New to Facer Creator? We've got you, the guide puts help right where you need it, so you can learn the tools, understand the workflow, and find answers without ever leaving your design.

Between inline tag definitions and the reference guide, the answer to "how does this work?" is now always one hover or one click away. Whether you're building your first complication or fine-tuning an advanced conditional expression, it's never been faster to get it right.

Precision matters, and our updated Rulers & Guides give you pixel-perfect placement every time. Pull out guides, line elements up against the ruler, and let smart snapping do the rest.

Whether you're centering a logo or aligning a row of complications, everything lands exactly where you want it.

🎨 A redesigned color picker

Color is central to every great watch face, so we redesigned the color picker to help you add it. It's cleaner and offers more precise control over every shade in your design. Select from your previously used colors or available presets. More presets are coming soon!
